The background to Inspire Me (Boom Boom Ba)
Inspire Me was written during yet another lockdown in late 2020. It recognises the dire state we were in but also the spirit and determination of all of us to make the best of a bad situation … Zoom quiz anyone?!
I first sang it on a Facebook Live gig in early 2021, as my last song of the set. Even though no-one had heard the song before, I hoped everyone would soon be joining in with the Boom Boom Ba chorus, and feel uplifted and inspired by the end.
I feel some African musical influence in this song with the multi-voice choruses and trumpet soaring over the voices at the end.
