When Is the Time for Me?
The background to When Is the Time for Me?

Self-explanatory?!

The song is pretty much a list of all the jobs that constantly need doing, with wishes of what it would be nice to be able to do.  The single line “When is the time for me?” acts as a chorus being both the first & last line of each verse/list, and appears on 7 separate occasions during the song.  Whilst not actually intentional at the time of writing, the 7 reiterations represent the 7 days of the week rather well! The line is sung rather sadly/hopelessly before culminating as the final, intentionally discordant, “scream” of the song.
When Is the Time for Me? - the lyrics

When is the time for me?

Time to paint my nails, put on fancy clothes
They don’t have to be fancy, just not pulled out of shape,
with no sticky finger marks on them … just clean!
Just clean.

Changing nappies, fixing toys
Coping with the constant noise
Feeding kids, weekly shop
Moody tantrums, daily strop

When is the time for me?

Time to phone a friend, Wear nice jewellery
Forget nice, just any jewellery.
I always wear matching sets.
Dream on.

Loading dishes, making tea
Craving adult company
Washing, folding, ironing clothes
Wipe your bum and snotty nose

When is the time for me?

Time to ride my bike, swim or take a hike
But you already do that with the children.
Yes, but I want to go at my speed, and in one direction!

Cutting, sticking, paint and glue
Always so much stuff to do
Naughty step, sleepless nights
Apologising – my kid bites.

When is the time for me?

Time to make the beds; have a real lie-in
What till 8 o’clock?
No, I mean a real lie-in – till 11.
Heaven!

Kissing better, mending knees
Terrible 2s, horrendous 3s
Mo-ni-to-ring all the bills
Sorting cupboards, dusting sills

When is the time for me?

Time to dream my dreams; and just be me
Who are you? Who were you? What, before I had the children?

Sopping bathtimes, washing hair
Too much stress.  It’s not fair
Swatting wasps, insect bites
Bless our needy little mites!

When is the time for me?

Time to read a book
Meg and Mog, Thomas the Tank Engine, Angelina Ballerina
No a real book in peace
Eat (Ea…t) in peace
Sleep (Slee…p) in peace

When is the time for me?
